Totnes is nuts about transition

Transition town Totnes is seeing the first fruits of its nut tree planting.

Nuts are a viable way of gaining calorific staples without the need for oil hungry arable crops, although Totnes is hardly about to become fully reliant on nuts for its carbohydrate intake, its a step in the right direction for them.

There needs to be a better appreciation of the potential of nuts for future food. The permaculture movement has been proactive in pushing the forest farming methodology which incorporates nuts as a vital part of the food cycle… just have to be careful of those pesky squirrels, where’s my catapult?
