Blogging WOMAD – Cheikh Lo and The Bays

Womad Charlton Park 2010 has kicked off in style, with the extraordinary talents of The Bays in collaboration with the Heritage Orchestra; and the amazing talents fo Senegalese maestro Cheikh Lo.

The Bays, known for their mastery of the improvised and experimental, were teamed up with The Heritage Orchestra, who took to the stage without a score – only to have it written on the spot by composers John Metcalfe and Simon Hale.

Senegals own Cheikh Lo wowed the crowd with sultry vocals and flamboyant stage presence – and despite the early rain Womad is still not Womud.

Signing off as the press tent closes up early tonight, I’ll be bringing you more from tomorrow morning!
