Bread and Wine

I’ve been making bread and wine again – it’s the time of year for Bramble wine, and we’re nearly out of bread, so the two have coincided. It reminded me of how similar the two substances are, and makes me wonder about the spiritual significance of that similarity.

Bread ingredients:

Water, yeast, sugar, ground up grains, salt.

Wine ingredients:

Water, yeast, sugar, mashed up fruit.

Combine all the ingredients and leave them to ferment, in the case of bread it is all done and dusted in a day or less, in the case of wine it takes a few months.

Wine then needs a bit of mucking about with, bread needs baking. In the end you drink one and eat the other.
