Maltesers to go fair trade in 2012
Hot on the heels of dairy milk, certain types of kit kat and assorted other milk chocolate bars and sweets, Mars have now announced Maltesers will be going fair trade in 2012.
This is basically a good thing I think, Mars, unlike Nestle, dont have a particularly evil reputation as a company, and any attempt by them to take things a step further is good.
We must remember though that fair trade status is only a step on the way, its not the end goal, and there is lots more the company could and should do to sharpen up their act.
We must continue to put pressure on all mass market producers to lighten their load on people and the environment, and the best way to do that is through the power of the purse.
If it aint ethically produced (grey area alert, but use your brain) then dont buy it. If you arent sure, dont buy it. If you dont need it, dont buy it. I’m not 100% sure that any body needs maltesers, but perhaps somebody will put me straight on that.
Anyway, this is basically good news, hip hip hooray.
